Weasley

Forever in our hearts
We lost our sweet Weasley just two weeks ago from heart-related complications, and some days it seems unbearable. He came into my life one sunny afternoon in Tampa, when I'd gone into the pet store only to get cat food -- but then saw him in the rescue room full of adoptables. It really was love at first sight, so I bought another cat carrier in addition to the food, and took my new ginger boy home. He had been a street cat and thus required a name. Given his red hair and freckles, Weasley fit the bill perfectly. He was with me through so much; life changes, both good and difficult, offering unwavering support and a quiet, loving understanding in his eyes that seemed to tell me that everything will be fine. He traveled with me often, fully enjoying the special treatment that he so richly deserved for his patience. Once my children arrived, he remained my constant companion. He never once complained when the kids wanted to hug him, pet him or dress him up for tea parties. He honestly loved being with his people, and his constant chattiness made my kids believe we had our very own special language. And I think we really did. I had the great privilege of his companionship for more than 14 years, but of course no time is ever really long enough with those we love so very much. I'm grateful for all that Weasley taught me--and my children--too much to condense here, but the most important being what it feels like to have unconditional love. I love you, Wease.
