Shadow

Forever in our hearts
Our sweet Shadow was born just a couple weeks after 9/11. We just lost him two months ago to degenerative myelopathy. He loved to swim and, as a puppy, would spin in circles when he saw me put my suit on. He could dive to the bottom of the deep end to retrieve a toy as well as hold up to six squish balls in his mouth at a time. Along with his brother, Cruiser, he helped many children in the school where I worked as well as adults. He always seemed to know just who needed him most. On one therapy dog visit, he would not leave this lady's side and visit with others. She came up to me later and told me that she had just learned that her brother had passed away .Another time, he left my classroom to walk into the one across the hall. He walked by all the other students to put his head in the lap of a crying autistic boy. Three years ago, he helped me through a very difficult time when I lost both my parents in a car crash just eight days after my divorce. Shadow was a perfect gentleman and a wise, gentle soul. I like to think he is once again romping with Cruiser.
