Mickey & Phoebe

Forever in our hearts
Mickey & Phoebe were both rescues. I thought I rescued them. But as so many know, they truly saved me. I would not be alive today if not for them. Mickey, a pit mix, my first, was a gentle, patient, sweet & wise boy - with a dash of mischief. We had a special bond. Phoebe, a tiger-brindle boxer, who came about a year later, already had a rough start; she had wounds, but she was also loving, plalyful, intelligent, & determined. Mickey was there for her, too, protecting & modeling behaviors. We did everything together, a family, a haven - teaching Mickey to swim, walking in the woods, watching them grow & play - until Mickey got sick. Too young & nothing I could do. We made a deal to end his pain. I kept the deal; he was released from pain & our world, & he let me know he was happy & free. (That's when I found this fantastic organization which I've often used to help others through loss.) Then, Phoebe (my warrior princess with a love of squeaky toys and her pillow) & I became a duo, special girlfriends as she wanted - although she was always special. She challenged me in many ways, and we learned. She even endured water therapy, before I knew how sick she was, & let her go. It's been many years, yet I still talk to them daily & miss them terribly. Maybe someday I can have another companion, but there will always be Mickey & Phoebe, my first loves.
