Lachlan
Lachlan Rast was the most loved dog in the world and his unexpected illness and passing have left a community in mourning. But none more so than his parents, Ruth and Walker Rast. The love and care they gave Lachlan were filled with an unmatched intensity and deepest bond. They would do anything for their “son.” Walker would spend many hours a day with Lachlan at his feet on the ottoman while Ruth made sure Lachlan and his brother Kane received great care- always well groomed, well fed, comfortable and healthy. Lachlan and Kane had their own bedroom and shared a queen-sized bed. After they woke up in the morning and ate breakfast, they would hop in bed with their favorite people. Lachlan has been described as a wise old soul, mature beyond his years. He didn’t have a typical dog personality, instead, he was very human with his eyes and personality. He rarely barked and was very calm and in tune with his surroundings. Walker likes to tell the story of picking him out of the litter because he was the only one with brown ears and he was small enough to carry him in the palm of his hand. He immediately fell in love and developed a lifetime bond with his new pet. While most dogs adapt to their owners’ schedules, that isn’t so in the Rast household. The dogs set the schedule when they are hungry and sleepy and the Rasts adapt their lives around it. There is not anything they wouldn’t do for their pets. The dogs always look forward to their annual travels to Maggie Valley and the Adirondacks. And when Ruth and Walker can’t take their pets with them, they drive several hours out of the way for the best boarding. Lachlan gave the Rast family twelve years of great love, laughter and happiness. He was a real treasure and an amazing dog. Even though Lachlan left you way too soon and before you could prepare yourself for the loss, he will always remain in your hearts and ours. We love you! Mahj girls (with thanks to Trena and Brian)
