Blossom

Forever in our hearts
It has now been over 3 months since we lost our beloved best friend Blossom, and we think of her every day. We will never forget her. She came to us as a puppy 17 years ago, in a basket with a yellow bow, from Lovettsville VA. Her new Mom Ginny and Godmother Karen brought her home shortly before the annual Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, VA, and her new Dad Bobby appropriately named her “Miss Apple Blossom” since she was a brilliant white like the springtime blossoms on apple trees. She was a wonderfully gregarious and sweet little Bichon Frise who loved everyone and delighted them with her cute ways. She especially charmed our mothers and kept them smiling. She enjoyed many years with her big brother Alex, a chocolate point Himalayan cat. Blossom was a very smart little dog and we always enjoyed coming home to find her waiting by the door for us, her little tail wagging. She was also an athletic little dog (as her vet Dr. Mary Margaret once proclaimed) and loved to race out into the yard to play catch/fetch the tennis ball (we called it “Blossom’s baseball”), and she loved long walks (sometimes very long when she was young). Her favorite daily walks were at Clear Brook Park and on Union View road, but she travelled and walked far and wide. We took her everywhere with us, including on a 10,000 mile road trip across the USA, where she enjoyed staying in hotels (pet-friendly La Quinta Inns) with her little brother Harrington (an orange tabby Persian cat) – they both especially liked the alien museum in Roswell. When Mom brought her home from a grooming appointment her Daddy would greet her saying “How pretty!” and her little tail would wag and wag. She was a happy little dog that we considered “our little girl,” and she made her Mom and Dad, and everyone who was fortunate to meet her, feel warm and happy. She would cuddle with us every day on our bed, and her Mom would prepare wonderful meals for her that evolved over time. She courageously fought several significant medical challenges during her life, and as she grew older we lovingly took care of her, to the point that her Mom and/or Dad was with her constantly as her eyesight failed and she grew frail. She loved going outside, sniffing after the deer, bunnies, and other critters in our yard, and we created a beautiful memorial to her in the yard alongside our other beloved pet memorials. She was so special – one of a kind. We loved her so very very much, we miss her every day, and we will always remember our sweet little Blossom, who will bloom forever in our hearts.
